Q. Do we maintain control of our data?
Yes – ownership of the database is still yours. We can also provide database credentials upon request.
Q. Do we have an option to customize the backup of the database?
We use Azure’s Point in Time backup for 7 days. Long-term recovery options are available if desired, but that is the extent of the customization for backups.
Q. What is the current data retention policy?
We currently do not delete any data.
Q. What are the security measures to protect our data from cyber security threats beyond the firewall? I am thinking of the CIA triad - Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability
Confidentiality – We ensure the data is encrypted at rest.
Integrity – We rely on Microsoft Defender for Cloud to monitor incoming traffic for suspicious activity
Availability – We do not currently have any monitors to ensure that the databases are accessible at all times. However, we have not experienced any outages.
Q. What are the Microsoft Azure tools used to help protect our data? Are the tools configured using best practices?
We currently use Microsoft Defender and Azure Firewall. Both are configured according to best practices. Defender also runs checks on a weekly basis to ensure the configuration has not been altered.
Q. What does the Service Level Agreement (SLA) cover regarding availability for us as a tenant in your space?
We guarantee a database uptime of 99% *Dependent on Azure’s availability
Q. If we decide to leave E-manage, can we readily have access to our data for export?
Yes. Whether you decide to leave e-manage or to go back to on-prem setup, we will provide a backup of your database that can be restored back into SQL.
