🧩 Setting Up & Using Classes in e-manage|ONE
📘 What Are Classes?
Classes provide an additional way to break out and analyze your financial data in QuickBooks, allowing you to track income, costs, and profitability for specific segments of your business—such as departments, regions, or divisions.

⚠️ Important Considerations Before Using Classes
Classes require additional setup and careful planning.
Because e-manage|ONE summarizes financial entries by Product Type, you will typically need:
A Product Type for each Class
Corresponding cost centers for each Product Type
This ensures Classes can be assigned consistently and accurately throughout e-manage|ONE and QuickBooks.
🌴 Real-World Use Case: Tracking Sales by County / Island
In the example below, an e-manage|ONE customer located in Hawaii needed to track sales by county/island due to differing GET (General Excise Tax) rates.
By using Classes, they were able to:
Assign a Class per county/island
Easily report and reconcile tax obligations in QuickBooks
This approach allowed for accurate tax reporting without maintaining separate QuickBooks files.
🏢 Another Common Use Case: Tracking Profitability by Department
Another customer wanted to track profitability across four departments:
New
Refurb
IT
Used
To accomplish this, they:
Created a Product Type for each department
Set up matching QuickBooks accounts (Sales, WIP, and COGS)
Assigned the appropriate Class to each Product Type
📊 Example: Product Types, Accounts, and Classes
Below is a simplified example showing how Product Types, QuickBooks accounts, and Classes align.

📈 Example: QuickBooks Profit & Loss by Class
When running a Profit & Loss by Class report in QuickBooks:
Each account appears as a row
Each Class appears as a column
Amounts are automatically grouped by Class
This allows you to quickly evaluate:
Revenue by department
COGS by department
Overall profitability per Class

⚙️ Setting Up Classes in e-manage|ONE
📝 Step 1: Determine If Classes Are Needed
✅ Not required if you maintain separate QuickBooks files per division
✅ Recommended if you use one QuickBooks file for consolidated financial reporting especially for multi-location dealers
🔄 Step 2: Import Classes from QuickBooks
If using one QuickBooks file:
Open the e-manage|ONE QuickBooks Integration Application
Select Import → Classes
